About
The Health-RI cBioPortal provides a web-based resource for researchers to explore, visualise, analyse, and share multidimensional cancer genomics data sets as well as other studies with multidimensional genomics data.
Visualisations include survival analysis, networks analysis, co-expression and the onco-print (gene-print). Furthermore, a study view provides summary statistics of your clinical data allowing to create a subset of your data for further analysis.
The portal supports a variety of genomic data types, including somatic mutations, DNA copy-number alterations (CNAs), mRNA and microRNA (miRNA) expression, DNA methylation, protein abundance, and phosphoprotein abundance.
To protect your data, the cBioPortal hosted by Health-RI has access policies, meaning that as a study owner you can decide which users have access to your studies. No bioinformatics expertise required for viewing, analysing and querying the data in cBioPortal.
A fair-use policy applies to the use of cBioPortal, associated with terms of use and a pricing model.

Getting started
For a hands-on introduction: please check the tutorials of cBioPortal.
To use cBioPortal for your study data, please contact the Health-RI Servicedesk to receive more information. Once the decision is made to use cBioPortal, only the data owner like the principal investigator (PI) of the study (or a delegate with explicit consent of the data owner) can make a new study request via the Health-RI Self Service Portal (please contact the Health-RI Servicedesk to create a Health-RI Self Service Portal account if you do not have one yet).
One of the Health-RI cBioPortal operators will discuss the data preparation steps with the data owner and/or data modeller* of the study. It’s the data owner’s responsibility to provide other users within the study with instructions and guidelines to ensure that they act accordingly.
If you would like to have access to a study already in cBioPortal, please fill in the corresponding form in the Health-RI Self Service Portal. Please contact the Health-RI Servicedesk to create a Health-RI self-service portal account if you do not have one yet.
* In most cases, the data owner such as the PI assigns a data modeller involved in the study to perform the data preparation steps instead of preparing the data themselves.

Support
Health-RI supports users in the Health-RI cBioPortal environments. Support is provided for specific questions/issues related to cBioPortal, but the support model assumes a do-it-yourself attitude in terms of providing data in the correct formats, as described here. For general guidance, cBioPortal offers online tutorials and a frequently asked questions section. The Health-RI Servicedesk will provide 1st and 2nd line user support. Please contact us for more information on Health-RI cBioPortal specific support.
If you would like to have access to a study already in cBioPortal but do not have access to the Health-RI Self Service Portal, please mail the Health-RI Servicedesk to request the necessary access.
Further information
cBioPortal was originally developed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), the portal became open source in 2011 and is used by tens of thousands of researchers worldwide.
The portal is actively developed and maintained by a multi-institutional team, consisting of MSK, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, The Hyve in the Netherlands, and Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.
